The ZPDP party believes that homegrown and sustainable economic development can be achieved through an efficient and well-managed national infrastructure. Our roads network is in a complete state of disrepair while our railway network is completely dilapidated.
Roads and Transportation
The ZPDP recognizes the general infrastructural deficiencies that exist in Zimbabwe. These include the current lack of an affordable, safe and reliable public transportation system and a well-maintained public roads network.
A sound road and railway network is the heartbeat of a vibrant economy, as this will improve the economic opportunities and living conditions of inhabitants in all areas. A road and railway agency will be set up to oversee the maintenance and management of the national network.
However, we believe that public transportation is best run by the private sector. A ZPDP government will therefore support transport organizations in their acquisition, operation and maintenance of passenger and goods transport. The railway network will be entrusted into private hands with the watchful eye of government on health and safety issues.
Water and Energy
Water is a basic essential that Zimbabweans cannot live and work without. Regrettably, Zimbabwe currently has an unreliable water and energy supply characterised by widespread water shortages, unannounced and disruptive power cuts and fuel scarcity. To meet increasing water and energy demands for domestic and industrial uses, the ZPDP will encourage competition in electricity and energy supply.
A ZPDP government will also explore alternative fuel and energy sources. Foreign investment will be sought to overhaul the national energy sector that is languishing below capacity. The Kariba Dam and Hydro-power Plant, the Hwange Thermal Station and the Hwange Colliery are all in desperate need of revamping. This can never be done without foreign strategic partners with the requisite resources to invest in such huge projects.
The current productive capacities of Zimbabwean water bodies and energy plants will be boosted with new ones established where feasible. All outstanding water and energy projects such as Matabeleland-Zambezi Water Project and others will be completed as a matter of priority.
A ZPDP government will also embark on an ambitious exploration of new energy mineral deposits in various sites that have been identified to potentially hold untapped coal deposits and methane gas reserves. |
