PRESIDENT AT A GLANCE:

Ms. I.S. Madangure
ZPDP President

To many Zimbabweans, Mrs. Madangure represents a symbol of integrity and untainted political credentials that are crucial for steering Zimbabwean politics towards an era of credibility and stability.  Mrs. Madangure’s vision sets out a clear path to make Zimbabwe once again the pride of Africa.

Mrs. Madangure knows, as you do, that Zimbabwe can be restored to the great nation that it once was.

Like you, Mrs. Madangure understands that Zimbabwe is most successful when we all work together.  She believes, like so many Zimbabweans do, that we are stronger together.

PRESIDENT BIOGRAPHY:
Mrs. Madangure, was born the daughter of a highly revered Church Minister and former Prison Chaplain who has been described as “a hero who risked his life carrying letters for detainees during the country’s liberation struggle.”

Like her father Mrs. Madangure has spent much of her life serving Zimbabwe’s people.  She is tirelessly working with ZPDP leaders and advisors both at home and abroad to develop a holistic national plan for Zimbabwe.

Before entering politics, Mrs. Madangure spent her early years as a school-teacher.  In addition to raising four children of her own, she has taught and inspired thousands of young minds through Zimbabwe’s elementary and high schools.

In 1974 Mrs. Madangure left her teaching career to start up a small grocery store in the high-density Highfields area of Harare.  This eventually expanded to a second location and a Bulawayo fruit and vegetable market.

In 1980, following Zimbabwe’s independence, Mrs. Madangure secured several large contracts to supply fresh fruit and vegetables to Zimbabwe’s army, schools, hospitals and other public institutions.

By 1988 high inflation, abuse of authority, corruption, violence and other factors caused many Zimbabweans to loose confidence in the Zanu PF government.  Mrs. Madangure and other Zimbabweans took action printing pamphlets and protesting in the streets of Zimbabwe.

In 1991, Mrs. Madangure became a founding member of the Zimbabwe People's Democratic Party.  The party, now more commonly known as the ZPDP, was symbolized by an image of a mother carrying her young baby on her back.

In 1991 at one of the most exciting ZPDP leadership conventions, Mrs. Madangure was elected as the first leader of the Zimbabwe People’s Democratic Party.  She became the first women in African history to challenge the presidency of an African country.

Today the ZPDP and Mrs. Madangure continue to challenge the Zanu PF government.  The ZPDP aims to provide a transparent and accountable new government capable of restoring the freedom and personal dignity of Zimbabwe’s people.
