Common Questions
ZPDP

I am considering joining the ZPDP, what are the Party’s policies?
The Party is working with it’s leaders and advisors to draft a ZPDP Manifesto that will set our Party’s policies.  The Manifesto will be released through the ZPDP website at www.zpdp.org

What are Mrs. Madangure’s views on the very important issues in Zimbabwean politics?
Mrs. Madangure objectively considers the advise of experts on Zimbabwe’s political issues.  As a Zimbabwean, she symbolizes integrity and hope for Zimbabwe's future and like thousands of other women in Zimbabwe she is concerned about everyday issues in our country.

Mrs. Madangure is concerned about the intolerable living conditions in Zimbabwe’s communities as well as the scarcity of food, clean water and healthcare.  She worries that Zimbabweans are dying unnecessarily and is working to change the situation in Zimbabwe by offering Zimbabwean’s a viable new government in 2008.

The ZPDP is putting together a suitable team of people with the necessary skills to formulate policies that will make up the central agenda of the party.

How does the ZPDP wish to relate with ZANU PF as a party and government?
The ZPDP does not subscribe to the 'us against them' doctrine. The party will seek to engage constructively with all political players in Zimbabwe.

National issues are a preserve of every nation and there will be no discrimination by the ZPDP on the basis of political affiliation. The ZANU PF government has failed dismally to deliver on the expectations of the people of Zimbabwe.  The ZPDP will engage the government whenever and wherever necessary for the advancement of the lives of Zimbabwe's citizens.

Where does the party stand vis a vis Africa and the West?
Zimbabwe cannot operate in a vacuum and has a lot of work to do before it can fully mend strained international relations and reestablish its economic viability.  The ZPDP is addressing this important question in its Manifesto and aims to develop a sustainable independent Zimbabwe by cultivating productive relationships with other African countries and with international partners.

Does the ZPDP recognise the ZANU PF government and Mugabe as elected through the last presidential elections?
The ZPDP is aware that the MDC has taken a non-recognition stance.  The ZPDP recognises the current ZANU PF government of President Mugabe as the elected government. Of course the ZPDP is fully aware of the fundamental flaws to the Zimbabwean electoral system that gives the ruling ZANU PF an edge over other political competitors.

The ZPDP hopes for a democratically free and fair election in 2008 and is focusing its efforts on developing its capacity to provide Zimbabweans a viable opposition choice in 2008.

What is the ZPDP doing to bring about democratic change in Zimbabwe?

The Zimbabwe People’s Democratic Party is listening to the people of Zimbabwe at the national and local levels and in the Diaspora and we are working to respond to their needs and suggestions.  We believe that collectively, we will develop a realistic vision for Zimbabwe’s future, one that will bring political and economic stability as well as individual rights freedom, safety, employment, nutrition, health, education, housing and economic stability for all Zimbabwean.  The ZPDP regularly updates members and supporters on our policies through our website at www.zpdp.org.

We are doing a great deal to bring about democratic change in Zimbabwe.  The people of Zimbabwe should be allowed to select and replace government through free and fair elections and should have the freedom to actively participate in politics and civic life and hold their leaders accountable for their policies and conduct while in office.  Zimbabweans should also be entitled to human rights and to the equal rule of law.

We encouraging Zimbabweans to select the political party of their choice and to participate in the elections and use the power of their vote to decide who will represent them in parliament, and who will head the government at the national and local levels.  We believe that power should flow from the people to the leaders of government, who should hold power only temporarily.

We encourage Zimbabweans to vote wisely in elections, to listen to the views of the different parties and candidates, and to make their own decisions on whom to support.

We encourage Zimbabweans to participate in campaigning for our political party or candidates, or to stand as a candidate, to engage in debates on public issues, to petitioning the government, and even protesting in a non-violent manner.

We encourage Zimbabweans to become active members of our political party, however, we believe that no citizen should be pressured or threatened by others to join a political party.  The Zimbabwe People’s Democratic Party encourages tolerance of the different views of other groups and individuals.

We are calling on independent observers to observe the voting and vote counting in Zimbabwe to ensure that the process is free of corruption, intimidation, and fraud.

We believe that all parties and candidates must have the right to campaign freely and present our proposals to Zimbabwean voters directly and through the mass media.

Zimbabweans should be free to voice their opinion of elected leaders and representatives and we encourage citizens to observe how they conduct themselves as they run our country.

We support and encourage active participation in independent, non-governmental organizations that represent the interests of women, children, students, farmers, workers, doctors, teachers, church members and human rights activists.

Our party has a strong woman leader as President of the Zimbabwe People’s Democratic Party, and we encourage all women in Zimbabwe to educate themselves about their democratic rights and responsibilities.

We encourage and support freedom of religion, culture, pluralism in the media, association, movement, assembly in a peacefully manner that is respect of the law and of the rights of others.

The Zimbabwe People’s Democratic Party believes that citizens must respect the law and reject violence.  Every citizen must respect the rights of his or her fellow citizens, and their dignity as human beings.
